Hi everyone, and welcome back to the Castle Hills Chiropractic podcast! I’m Dr. Brent Johnson, and today, we’re talking about a really important therapy that can make a huge difference for people struggling with back pain — spinal decompression.

So, what exactly is spinal decompression?

At its core, spinal decompression is a non-surgical, gentle therapy designed to relieve pressure on the spine. It’s especially effective for conditions like herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, and even chronic lower back pain.

Here’s how it works:

During a spinal decompression session, you lie on a specially designed table that’s connected to a computer system. Based on your specific needs, the system gently stretches and relaxes your spine in a controlled way. This creates a negative pressure inside your discs — almost like a vacuum effect — that helps pull bulging or herniated disc material back into place. It also brings in oxygen, water, and nutrient-rich fluids, which help the discs heal naturally.

Now, a lot of people wonder — does it hurt?

The answer is no. Most of our patients at Castle Hills Chiropractic actually find spinal decompression very relaxing. Some even fall asleep during their sessions! It’s designed to be gentle and comfortable.

One of the biggest benefits of spinal decompression is that it treats the root cause of the pain rather than just masking symptoms. Instead of relying on medications or rushing into surgery, spinal decompression offers a natural, effective option for healing.

Of course, it’s not for everyone. That’s why we always do a thorough consultation and evaluation first. If spinal decompression is the right fit for you, we’ll build a customized treatment plan that fits your unique needs.

If you’ve been dealing with nagging back pain, numbness, tingling, or even weakness in your legs, it might be time to find out if spinal decompression could help.
