“Welcome back to the wellness minute from Castle Hills Chiropractic. I’m Dr. Brent Johnson.
Fall’s here—or at least on its way—and with cooler temps comes a natural shift toward coziness. We swap outdoor walks for indoor marathons on TV and, suddenly, our bodies start to feel it: stiffness, low‑energy slumps, achy backs from long hours on the couch.
But there’s a way to stay ahead and keep your spine and joints feeling great all season long.
First, take your moves indoors. Put on a simple 10‑minute walk video or try gentle yoga by the fireplace. Even stepping in place during commercials or pacing while chatting on the phone helps circulation and spinal mobility.
Second, warm‑up routines are essential. Before activity—even light stretching—spend a minute or two on easy movements: arm circles, marching in place, neck rolls. Warm muscles protect joints and loosen spinal tension.
Third, strengthen your core and back. Planks, bridges, and seated rows (even with a resistance band) keep your spine supported. Strong core muscles reduce strain and maintain proper alignment.
Cold air can also prompt tightness—especially in shoulders and the upper back. Self‑massage with a foam roller, tennis ball against a wall, or gentle shoulder rolls can break up stiffness.
And just because it’s cool outside doesn’t mean you have to hibernate. A brisk walk, light jog, or even active chores like raking leaves can be invigorating and spine‑friendly.
If movement brings soreness—or if you find your posture changing—don’t let it persist. A simple adjustment, personalized exercise plan, or posture check can help keep you comfortable all season long.
Here’s to a cozy but active fall. Keep moving, stay warm, and give your spine the care it deserves.
