Hey there, and welcome. I’m Doctor Brent Johnson from Castle Hills Chiropractic here in Castle Hills, Texas. Today, I want to clear up some of the biggest misconceptions about what chiropractors actually do. Because honestly, I hear some wild stuff from new patients walking through my door.
So let’s start with myth number one. A lot of people think all we do is crack backs. And I get it… that popping sound is pretty memorable. But here’s the reality. Chiropractic care is about restoring proper movement and function to your spine and joints. That adjustment you hear? That’s a gentle, specific movement designed to help a joint that’s not moving the way it should. The sound is just gas releasing from the joint… like cracking your knuckles. It’s not bones grinding or anything scary. And honestly, the adjustment is just one tool in our toolkit. We also work on soft tissues, give you exercises, talk about posture and ergonomics, and create whole plans to help you move better and feel better long term.
Here’s another big one. Some folks think once you go to a chiropractor, you have to keep going forever. Not true. Look, my goal is to get you feeling better and functioning well. For some people, that happens in just a few visits. For others who’ve had chronic issues for years, it takes a bit longer. And yes, some patients choose to come in for maintenance care because they feel better when they do… kind of like going to the gym or getting your teeth cleaned. But you’re always in control. There’s no trap door that locks behind you.
Now let’s talk about safety, because I know this worries people. Chiropractic care is incredibly safe when performed by a licensed professional. We go through years of extensive training… similar to medical doctors… learning anatomy, diagnosis, and how to treat musculoskeletal problems. Before I adjust anyone, I do a thorough exam. I look at your history, I check how you move, and I make sure chiropractic care is right for you. If it’s not, I’ll tell you and point you in the right direction.
And here’s what might surprise you. Chiropractic isn’t just for back pain. Sure, that’s what we’re known for, but we treat neck pain, headaches, shoulder problems, hip issues, even some knee and ankle conditions. Anywhere you have a joint that’s not moving right, we can probably help.
So what can you do today? Pay attention to how you’re moving. Notice if you’re sitting hunched over your phone or your computer for hours. Notice if one shoulder feels tighter than the other. Your body gives you signals… and those signals are worth listening to.
And if you’re dealing with pain that’s not going away, or if you just don’t feel like you’re moving as well as you used to, come get evaluated. A good chiropractor will give you an honest assessment and a real plan… not a sales pitch.
